ABSTRACT Biofortification is a strategy that aims to improve the nutritional quality of foods through genetic breeding. Zinc is an important mineral for human health. It is used in various physiological processes such as immune function, antioxidant protection, growth and development. Therefore, zinc is one of the most studied minerals in the biofortification of grains in cowpea. The objective of this study was to evaluate the adaptability and stability of zinc density in the grain of 12 cowpea genotypes in four environments in the states of Piauí (PI) and Maranhão (MA), Brazil, by using the GGE-Biplot method. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. Grain samples of each genotype were ground and the resulting flour was subjected... |

Abstract The elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) is a tropical perennial forage plant with high biomass production that adapts to various soil and climatic conditions in Brazil. Stability is defined as the consistency in performance of genotypes in different environments. The aim of the present study was to estimate stability parameters by the Eberhart and Russel method, and to select elephant grass genotypes with forage production stability and high-yield in Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil. Five harvests were made for evaluation in two years. The experimental design was arranged as randomized blocks design, with 80 treatments and two replicates. After the individual analysis of variance for dry matter yield, a combined split-plot analysis was... |

It was analyzed the existence of genotype × environment interaction for weaning weight in populations of Angus from Brazil and Uruguay by using records of 73,205 animals (10,257 from Uruguay and 62,948 from Brazil) belonging to 33 and 161 farms and 13 and 34 regions in Uruguay and Brazil, respectively. It was used the one- and two-trait animal model analyses considering weight at weaning of each country as different characters. Coefficients of direct and maternal additive-genetic correlation estimated by two statistical models (including or not bull × country effect) Models included the fixed effects of contemporary group (herd-year and month of birth), sex of the calf, the covariates age of dam at calving (years) and age of calf at weaning (days), and the... |

ABSTRACT Estimating stability and adaptability parameters of cultivars is a widely used study to access the genotype × environment interaction, in order to identify the best genotypes for each cultivation area. In this study, the adaptability and stability parameters were estimated in eight high-oleic lines and two peanut cultivars in 11 experiments in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2008 to 2013, based on the data of the plots mean productivity (Kg·ha–1), with the objective of recommending the most productive genotypes in peanut producing regions in the State of São Paulo. The design used for these experiments was the randomized complete blocks, with four replications. Lines L. 599 and L. 551 were the best genotypes regarding overall adaptability and... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the genotype x environment (GxE) interaction in open-pollinated Eucalyptus saligna progenies for simultaneous selection for greater stability and adaptability for wood volume, as well as to compare the selection strategies through combined and individual analyses in three environments. Three experiments were conducted in a randomized complete block design, with four replicates and six plants per plot, with 102 to 122 progenies. Three years after planting, survival rate and wood volume were evaluated. The genetic parameters were estimated by the maximum restricted likelihood and best linear unbiased prediction (REML/Blup) methods, and the stability and adaptability analysis was conducted using the... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the sufficient number of experiments (environments) for the adaptability and stability analyses of maize cultivars, using the Eberhart and Russell method. Grain yield data from 63 trials of maize cultivars from six groups of experiments were used. In each group, new data files were formed from all experiments (n), for the combinations of 3, 4, ..., n-1 experiments, totaling 10,381 files. Mean and estimates of the adaptability (b) and stability (S2d) parameters were obtained for each cultivar, in each file. A power function was adjusted for the amplitudes of b and S2d (dependent variables) in each cultivar, as a function of the number of experiments (independent variable), totaling 290 equations (145... |

ABSTRACT Cowpea is grown in the various soil and climatic conditions of the Northeast region of Brazil. Thus, selecting and developing cultivars with high yield, stability, and adaptability for this region is necessary due to the genotype × environment interaction. The objective of this work was to select cowpea lines of semi-erect plant simultaneously for high yield, adaptability, and genotypic stability in the Northeast region of Brazil by the REML/BLUP procedure. Twenty semi-erect genotypes-15 lines and five cultivars-were evaluated in 37 environments of the Northeast region from 2013-2015. The experiments were carried out under rainfed conditions in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The adaptability and genotypic stability were... |

ABSTRACT Cowpea is grown in different environmental conditions of the Northeast region of Brazil. Thus, selecting and developing cultivars with high yield, stability, and adaptability for this region is necessary due to the genotype × environment interaction. The objective of this work was to select cowpea lines of semi-prostrate plant simultaneously for high yield, adaptability, and genotypic stability in the Northeast region of Brazil by the REML/BLUP procedure. Twenty semi-prostrate genotypes-16 lines and four cultivars-were evaluated in 36 environments of the Northeast region from 2013-2015. The experiments were carried out under rainfed conditions in a completely randomized block design with four replications. The adaptability and genotypic stability... |
